Improve Your Customer Service Skills: Practice Proper Speech
There is nothing worse than being a customer at a store when you can’t understand the words coming out of the store’s employees. The other day I went to my local grocery store and I was at the counter getting my purchases all lined up and bagged when the cashier stopped and mumbled a question to me. I couldn’t understand so I politely asked her to repeat it, but the words only seemed to come out even more garbled. After about five tries we were both getting frustrated and the bag person had to say clearly to me: “Would you like to pay by cash or credit?”
You don’t want this to happen to your customers. It is important for your customer service skills that you practice proper speech. Project your voice when you speak and try to sound out the words slowly and separately. Don’t patronize the customer but make sure every word you say is crystal clear.
