There are numerous things we can do to better protection our security cameras from vandalism and conditions that might affect the operability of the camera. There are some basic mounting options and each has its own pros and cons. The ceiling mounts can be surface mounted, flush mounted, or pendant mounted. A surface mount just means that the camera is mounted on the surface and most of the camera is visible. A flush mount means only the part of the camera and housing that is transparent is visible. A pendant mount is hung from the ceiling usually for positioning and camera angle purposes. Then there are wall mounts that connect the camera and housing with an arm. For outdoor security cameras there might be a pole mount to get a wide field of view such as a parking lot, or a paramount which is usually used to give the camera a better viewing angle.

The transparent covering of housing for PTZ security cameras or PTZ dome cameras has higher quality standards for two reasons. Since the PTZ cameras all come with high zoom factors, any debris or particles that might be on the housing window would be magnified hundreds of times and greatly impact the quality of the image.
The covering of the security camera housing is bubble shaped which means the curvature of the window leaves no room for imperfect glass work. The thickness must be perfectly even or the resulting image could appear curved. The best bubble glass covering should not hinder the view of the security camera inside the housing regardless of the zoom capability and where the lens is positioned.
Dome security camera housing come in a range of varieties from clear to smoked glass and anything in between. Smoked glass coverings are better in the sense that the security camera is more discretely installed, but also reduce the amount of light that passes through the glass. This affects the light sensitivity of the security camera inside the housing and is an important factor to take into consideration when planning the installation of a new security camera in that type of housing.
